In Pictures: Gaza civilians pay price of war

Dozens of Palestinians wounded by Israeli bombings in Gaza are now seeking treatment at East Jerusalem hospitals.

Four-year-old Shymaia Ibrahim Massri from Beit Hanoun was injured on July 9 as she and her family were trying to reach a relative(***)s home. They were hit by two missiles shot from an Israeli drone. Her mother, two brothers and a cousin died on the spot; her sister died in the hospital from her wounds.

Occupied East Jerusalem – More than 50 Palestinians are being treated at hospitals in East Jerusalem after sustaining injuries during the ongoing Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip.

The process to enter East Jerusalem from Gaza is long and arduous, and only a small number of Palestinian patients received permission from the Israeli authorities to reach the city since Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip began over three weeks ago.

At the Israeli-controlled Erez crossing, many of the injured waited hours and were interrogated before they were allowed to cross.

Some of those in need of treatment said the Israeli soldiers had tried to convince them to stay in the field hospital Israel has set up at the crossing, or suggested that they go to Israeli hospitals, instead of Palestinian-run hospitals in East Jerusalem.

At Saint Joseph and Al-Makkased hospitals, hundreds of Palestinians have come to visit the injured, bringing them sweets and gifts for the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

On July 29, Zehir al-Najar, a six-year old Palestinian boy from the Gaza Strip, died at Saint Joseph hospital from injuries sustained during an Israeli military strike on Khan Younes.

Shymaia suffered internal bleeding and was hospitalised at the Shifa hospital in Gaza City. She was operated on twice, but the bleeding did not stop. After two days, she was allowed to enter Saint Joseph hospital.

This 18-year-old was injured in an Israeli missile strike on July 22 that struck his house without warning. He was moved to Saint Joseph hospital six days after the bombing.
Karim Omar Nufal from Beit Hanoun had his left leg amputated. The 15-year-old was wounded after an Israeli missile hit his home, and he was forced to walk down five floors to reach the ambulance. Shifa hospital, where he was initially treated, lacked the supplies to guarantee his full recovery. It took two days before Israel allowed him to be transferred to Saint Joseph hospital.
Alla Mohamed Abu-Amasha is five years old. On July 22, she was hit by an Israeli missile while playing near the grocery store in her neighbourhood of Beit Hanoun, in north Gaza. She was taken to Shifa hospital, then to Al Makassed Islamic Charitable Society Hospital in East Jerusalem, where she is in intensive care.
Rahme Mohamad al-Atawi, a mother of five, is paralysed from the waist down after an Israeli missile hit her house on July 22. The bombing happened while she was on the phone with relatives warning her to evacuate.
A father of four, Hamis Zaki Abu-Hatzera works as a phone technician in Gaza. He was wounded in an Israeli missile strike on July 22, which killed his friend and co-worker. The pair had been fixing phone lines in their neighbourhood.

Shajia Hanni Abu-Mansur is from Deir al-Baleh refugee camp. The 14-year-old suffered head injuries when an Israeli missile struck her house on July 11. She was moved to East Jerusalem on July 17, and has still not regained consciousness.
Six-year-old Khaled Majed Abu Mrahin from al-Zeitoun was wounded on July 10 at his uncle(***)s house on family-owned agricultural land. The area was hit by two Israeli missiles, fired from an F-16 warplane. The shockwave from the explosion threw Khaled to the ground, and an iron bar struck him on the head. Khaled has not spoken since the injury.
Mansour Awed Khalil is a 51-year-old carriage worker from Beit Lahiya. He was injured while breaking the daily Ramadan fast in his yard on July 17, when a so-called Israeli (***)warning(***) missile struck a neighbour(***)s house.
