Myanmar’s UN ambassador: ‘Military coup must fail’

Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun discusses the escalating conflict in his country.

It has been nearly 100 days since Myanmar’s military took power in a coup, triggering mass protests. The country’s security forces have responded with violence. Hundreds have been killed in the crackdown.

Shortly after the coup in February, Myanmar’s ambassador to the United Nations spoke out against the military leaders. Ambassadors of many countries, including the United States, joined Myanmar’s envoy in condemning the actions by the military, but others like China have refused to do so.

Will the international community reach a consensus on the matter or remain polarised? Myanmar’s UN ambassador, Kyaw Moe Tun, talks to Al Jazeera.
