That’s all we got
It was set up for a potential momentous night, but England were too good to let Wales even get close to thinking about a dream progression.
We’re finishing up on this blog, but our coverage will be back tomorrow for the next round of group games.
Until then.
The Welsh fans will be missed

Rob Page speaks to BBC
The Wales manager on how he feels after the result: “Very tough at this moment in time. I thought the first half was astounding, the effort they put in was incredible. We’re disappointed to leave the tournament.”
On Gareth Bale’s injury: “He felt his hamstring, [it was] Joe Allen’s first 90 minutes in ages. I couldn’t be more proud of them, honestly. To get here is a great achievement.”
Rashford on progressing
The 25-year-old said, “It’s obviously a great feeling, to be honest we were a little bit disappointed as a team after the last game against USA.”
He added, “Moments like this, this is what I play football for. I’m really happy today, I’m happy we’re going forward to the next round.”
Passed off the pitch
England registered nearly 600 passes to Wales’s 330, and Rob Page’s team just didn’t ever get into the game for a sustained period in order to pile pressure on the Three Lions. They looked like an ageing team and England’s ability to bring in fresh players helped.
Full-time!
It went the way of form as England ran out clear winners and weathered very little threat from Wales all game. A Rashford double perhaps guarantees his place for the knockouts, and it was a game where Southgate could both rotate and empty his bench.
A first World Cup in 64 years for Wales ends early, but they faced a better quality opposition in Group B in all their games in truth.
Wales 0-3 England
Stones should score
He’s six yards out but his shot goes about six yards over the bar in the end. It was from a bouncing ball at an England corner, and he looks in shock.
93 mins: Wales 0-3 England
Grealish wins foul
Ethan Ampadu gives the winger the treatment he’s used to after a sliding challenge near the halfway line. Hope he’s got a decent set of shin pads on.
Four minutes of additional time are announced.
91 mins: Wales 0-3 England
What next for Wales?
Gareth Bale has said it’s not his last game for Wales no matter what happens, but this World Cup has felt like a changing of the guard. The veterans have struggled to make the impact they once did in the last three games.
88 mins: Wales 0-3 England
Moore wins free kick
Harry Maguire tugs back the shirt of the Welsh striker and brings him down as they chase a long pass. Wilson’s shot goes straight into the England wall though, and it’s a wasted rare opportunity.
85 mins: Wales 0-3 England
Allen off injured
The midfielder is down in the middle of the pitch and it looks like his race is run, Rubin Colwill is brought on to replace him. A sorry end to his tournament on a tough night for his side.
82 mins: Wales 0-3 England
James next to leave field
The forward is removed from play, with Harry Wilson brought on in his stead. It’s unlikely to change the flow of the game as both Bellingham and Foden go close to scoring at the other end just moments after.
79 mins: Wales 0-3 England
Here’s how it stands now in Group B, with England sitting in the top spot with seven points, followed by the USA in second place with five.
Barring a major turnaround in this game and in the USA-Iran fixture, in which the Americans currently lead 1-0, the USA and England are heading through to the last 16.
Senegal on the horizon
England fans would be forgiven for thinking ahead to their likely next game now, with Group A’s second-placed team Senegal their opponents if it stays like this. Rashford is taken off, with Jack Grealish introduced.
76 mins: Wales 0-3 England
Rashford nearly gets a hat-trick
A neat interchange of passing between Rashford and Wilson leads to the Man United forward poking his low shot at Ward, who this time manages to push it away for a corner.
74 mins: Wales 0-3 England
Rashford nets England’s 100th World Cup goal
He's having some tournament 🔥

GOAL
Rashford kills off Wales after dancing through the Welsh defence! He shoots straight at Danny Ward in goal, who should probably do better but it deflects off his foot and into the net.
He made that one himself and it’s well deserved.
70 mins: Wales 0-3 England
Rodon down now
It’s a clash of heads as the centre back makes contact with Callum Wilson’s skull as they both go for a high ball. He comes off the worse for wear though, and there’s a brief stoppage in play, but he seems fine to continue.
Shaw is taken off for England, with Trippier on at left back.
66 mins: Wales 0-2 England
Booking for Ramsey
You can hear the screams on the TV coverage as Ramsey brings down Henderson, with a late boot on the midfielder’s ankle. He apologies immediately and the ball was there to be won in his defence.
62 mins: Wales 0-2 England
Harry Kane, assist machine
Harry Kane, England’s star striker, has turned into an assist machine in Qatar.
His incisive pass to Foden, who tapped in to make it 2-0 to England, means England’s captain has now created three goals at the 2022 World Cup, more than any other player so far.
Changes for both teams
Alexander-Arnold, Kalvin Phillips and Callum Wilson are on for England with Walker, Kane and Rice going off for an early bath.
Joe Morrell is on for Ben Davies for Wales.
59 mins: Wales 0-2 England
Wales go for broke
They’ve no other option after that quick double salvo from England. James goes close after a curling shot from the right, but it drifts just wide of Pickford’s goal.
Moore almost gets one back after a shot from distance deflects off Maguire, but England’s keeper beats it away.
57 mins: Wales 0-2 England
