Gaza has the highest number of child amputees per capita and has been rendered incapable of taking care of them.

Heba fled with her family from the northern Gaza Strip to the south after October 2023. Following Israeli airstrikes on the Al Nusairat refugee camp on 12 December 2024, Heba lost her father as well as five uncles, and had her leg amputated. According to a December 2024 report by the UN Palestine refugee agency UNRWA, Gaza currently has ‘the highest number of child amputees per capita anywhere in the world’.
