That’s all we’ve got time for
Our coverage of tonight’s game is ending. We’ll be back to cover all the twists and turns of the Qatar World Cup as the group stages continue tomorrow.
Until next time.
‘We want the cup’
Outside Stadium 974, Argentina fans are singing loud and clear: “We want to win the cup!”
Moreno says he never doubted his team’s chances of progressing to the knockout round.
“Whenever we have won the World Cup we have started with a loss so I’m sure we are going to win this time as well.”
Running the show
1 – Rodrigo De Paul completed 137 passes in the match against Poland 🇵🇱 (145 passes attempted), the most by an Argentina 🇦🇷 player in a World Cup game since at least 1966. Confidence. pic.twitter.com/dEo0ggP8cV

Who’s up next for these teams?
Argentina will face the Aussies in the Round of 16 after topping this group, with Poland facing a tough task against defending champions France.
Feels harsh for the Socceroos after their dream progression but they will probably relish the glamour tie.
Poland didn’t want the ball
They had just shy of more than 26 percent possession in that game, which underlines how happy they were to ride their luck and go through in second. Argentina bossed it but hard to tell how they would have done against a team who were trying to win also.
Saudis score, Poland are going through
Mexico can’t catch them now so the Poles will finish second in Group C. What a wild night for those in the permutations corner.
Full-time: Poland 0-2 Argentina
Both teams will probably take that result and Poland never really tried to get involved in this match as they knew they could go through by losing.
Argentina played their best football of this tournament, which will please Scaloni ahead of the Round of 16.

Tagliafico nearly scores
He lifts the ball over the onrushing Szczęsny but his chip is cleared off the line. Wow, that would have been something.
90+4 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
Does anyone fancy scoring?
Both teams look like they’ve declared and are happy with this result. If Argentina score they would eliminate Poland.
90+2 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
Argentina playing keep ball
Albicelestes are minding that ball and Poland don’t seem particularly keen on having it. It might just be enough to see them both through.
Six minutes added on.
90 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
Martínez drags his shot wide
There’s no one near him and he’s got all the time in the world, but drags his shot well wide of Szczęsny’s goal. That would have sent the Poles out.
87 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
Last rolls of the dice
Krzysztof Piątek comes on for Grzegorz Krychowiak for Poland. Alexis Mac Allister is off for Argentina, with Thiago Almada brought on.
85 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
Argentinian changes
Álvarez and Fernández go off, with Pezzella and Lautaro Martínez introduced.
82 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
Poland haven’t shown up
It’s been very casual from the team wearing white and red, given the stakes of this game. Lewandowski looks like he’s going to get a rare opportunity to attack the Argentinian box, but it’s nicked off his toes.
Krychowiak picks up a booking.
79 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
It’s on a knife edge
An Argentinian goal here would put Poland out of this World Cup, but they’re still giving Argentina opportunities to score. The definition of “living dangerously”.
76 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
Bereszyński goes off
Artur Jędrzejczyk is on in his stead. Álvarez misses a golden opportunity high and wide moments later after running through on goal.
74 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
Poland going through via fair-play points
As it stands, the Poles will be going through to the knockouts based on their better disciplinary record than Mexico, who are 2-0 up against Saudi Arabia.
71 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
GOAL
Álvarez puts this one to bed by the looks of it. He struck it sweetly after finding space in the box and it rifled into the roof of Poland’s net.
68 mins: Poland 0-2 Argentina
With just over 65 minutes played, Argentina continue to dominate Poland, controlling the majority of the ball and creating all of the game’s goal-scoring opportunities.
Game slowing down
Argentina are holding onto the ball and are in no rush to do anything with it. Neither are Poland it seems, who are largely watching them knock it around.
Everyone happy with this result, by the looks of it.
67 mins: Poland 0-1 Argentina
Polish change
Bielik leaves the pitch with Damian Szymański on. Can he change the flow of this game?
64 mins: Poland 0-1 Argentina
Mac Allister close to scoring again
A great ball to open up the pitch by Messi sets this one up, and it eventually comes to Mac Allister in the box but his tame shot is easily saved.
63 mins: Poland 0-1 Argentina
Scaloni makes changes
Leandro Paredes and Nicolás Tagliafico come on, with Di María and Acuña making way.
61 mins: Poland 0-1 Argentina
