Will Sudan’s coup leaders make concessions to protesters?
The ruling military council says it does not want power, and is ready for dialogue with protesters and political forces.
“We have no ambitions to hold the reigns of power.” Those were the words from the head of Sudan’s military council’s political committee, in response to ongoing protests in the capital, Khartoum on Friday.
This followed the removal of longtime President Omar al-Bashir, after 30 years in power.
In a press conference on Friday, Omar Zein al-Abideen said the army will respect the demands of the people.
He also pledged a new government would be run by civilians.
But will that be enough to satisfy the protesters?
And how challenging will the transition be?
