It’s a wrap
Before the tournament began, not many would have picked England to be outside the final four.
However, the manner in which they failed to reach expectations will certainly be discussed and dissected over the next few weeks as the players prepare to return home.
Many would have wanted to see India play Pakistan in the semis when the Men in Green began to pick up momentum towards the tail-end of the tournament.
But once England won the toss and elected to bat, you could sense the deflation in body language as they failed to keep The Three Lions to a modest total, and never really fired with the bat in the chase.
We next cover the semifinals as India play New Zealand on November 15, while Australia do battle with South Africa on Nov 16.
Thank you for keeping us company today, and on behalf of Adam Hancock and Patrick Keddie, this is Rohan Sharma signing off.

‘Tournament hasn’t quite gone to plan’
Willey, for his three for 56, is adjudged the player of the match and had this to say, “The tournament hasn’t quite gone to plan as a whole, which is a big disappointment.”
“To be able to perform and enjoy my last few games, and get to 100 wickets as well, is a nice treat for me.”
‘It would have been nice to have that [100 ODI wickets] and make the final as well, but it wasn’t meant to be. When you look around the dressing room, we have a number of good players and we definitely underperformed here [in India].”

England win by 93 runs
After enduring a shocking run of losing six out of seven of their opening matches of the group stage, The Three Lions have come back strongly with convincing wins over the Netherlands, and now Pakistan.
With this result, they also secure passage into the 2025 Champions Trophy after finishing seventh in the standings.
The bowling was led by Willey’s three for 56, and was ably supported by Ali, Rashid and Atkinson who all pick up a brace of wickets.
Pakistan 244 all out. Rauf out!
Woakes is brought back to try and make the final breakthrough.
He succeeds shortly after as he entices Rauf with a full-pitched delivery which he goes after.
However, he ends up getting more elevation than distance as Stokes takes his third catch of the innings at long on to finally end the resistance.
43 overs. Pakistan 244-9
Rauf targets the mid-wicket region once more but ends up getting an inside edge and the ball travels behind to the fine leg boundary.
He is riding his luck out there as Willey switches tack to go round the wicket.
Rauf swings again and ends up getting another edge which flies to the third man boundary.
Wasim goes up and over the off side to find the rope at deep extra cover.
With that stroke, the 50-run partnership is brought up. Just ludicrous from these two.
42 overs. Pakistan 231-9
Rauf clobbers Atkinson’s first ball high over cow corner for six.
The Pakistan batsmen in the dugout must be wondering why they didn’t employ a similar tactic earlier in the innings?
Rauf, going for the big heave again, ends up top-edging a chance off the next ball, which goes right into the stratosphere.
Looks like the fielders are unable to spot it as the ball lands safely in the outfield.
This is quite the fight back from Pakistan after they threatened to be dismissed for a lot less earlier on.
41 overs. Pakistan 222-9
Wasim pulls handsomely over mid-wicket to find the boundary.
He attempts a scoop shot over fine leg off the fourth ball, with the ball hitting his pads.
The bowler goes up for leg before, but the umpire is unmoved.
England decide to review anyway.
Ball tracking confirms the ball was pitching outside leg, so England are out of reviews.
Wasim closes out the over with an audacious lofted shot straight down the ground which sails over the rope.
He even holds the pose for the cameras. Remarkable shot there by the lower-order batter.
40 overs. Pakistan 209-9
Rauf whacks the first ball from Atkinson over mid-wicket for a boundary.
He follows it up with a mighty hoick, which just flies over the boundary rider at deep square leg for half a dozen.
Rauf slams a big six over long-on to make it 16 off the over.
A little too late, but it does give the fans something to cheer about, given that the match is a bit of a foregone conclusion.
39 overs. Pakistan 193-9
Willey continues to keep it tight as the tail-enders can only scrape two from the over.
Pakistan 191-9. Shaheen out!
Atkinson is brought on to replace Rashid.
Shaheen continues his aggressive ways by drilling the first ball through the covers for four.
The bowler pitches it up on the fourth ball and traps Shaheen leg before, with the umpire signalling it out.
Shaheen is unconvinced and reviews the decision.
Ultra Edge confirms no contact, and ball tracking shows the ball going on to hit the stumps.
It is the end of an entertaining cameo as the last man Rauf makes his way out to the middle.
Pakistan 186-8. Salman out!
Shaheen decides it is time to let loose.
He swings at the first two deliveries, with both heading to parts of the ground he did not intend, but gets the desired result in the form of boundaries.
The momentum is quickly quenched though as Salman gets on strike and then ends up spooning a chance over to Stokes at mid-off to end his eventful innings.
England are two away now as Pakistan are staring at a hefty defeat.
With that, the new batter is Wasim as Willey reaches 100 ODI wickets in his career.
36 overs. Pakistan 177-7
Salman looks to attack Rashid’s third ball over the leg side, but instead spoons a chance over towards the fielder at point.
However, as has been the case throughout his innings, the ball falls safely away from danger.
Rashid ends his excellent spell with figures of 2 for 55.
35 overs. Pakistan 174-7
Willey, who picked up two wickets early on to set the tone for England’s bowling, is back on.
Amid the chaos out there, Salman reaches a well-deserved 50.
He has been one of the lone bright spots in this chase, along with Babar and Rizwan.
34 overs. Pakistan 171-7
Rashid continues to toy with the batsmen as they are restricted to just three off the over.
With that, we will have another drinks break.
33 overs. Pakistan 168-7
Salman decides to throw caution to the wind with wickets tumbling at the other end.
He dances down to smash Ali high over long on for another six.
He attempts another big shot, but ends up getting a fortuitous edge which continues behind to the third man boundary.
With that, 12 come off the over.
Pakistan 150-7. Shadab out!
Shadab looks to drive through the covers, but he misses completely as the ball turns in and proceeds to knock over the stumps.
England are three wickets away now as Shaheen comes out to bat.
The new batter doesn’t need much of a sighter as he clobbers Rashid high over cow corner for a maximum to end the over at 156 for 7.
That is the first six of the innings, which is quite mind-boggling when you consider it came from the number nine batsman.
Pakistan 145-6. Iftikhar out!
The new batter’s stay at the crease ends prematurely as he looked to lift Ali high over mid-wicket for a boundary.
He instead succeeds at top-edging a chance over to a back-peddling mid-off, who does well to hold onto the chance as he falls over.
The lower order is now exposed as Shadab makes his way to the middle.
The over ends with Pakistan 149 for 6.
30 overs. Pakistan 145-5
Salman continues to find the boundary as he sweeps Rashid competently behind of square to beat the fielder to the rope.
Salman ends the over with a chip over mid-on for four.
29 overs. Pakistan 135-5
Salman reverse-sweeps Ali’s first ball down to deep fine leg for a boundary.
The batsmen run singles off the final five balls to accumulate nine from the over.
Pakistan 126-5. Shakeel out!
Shakeel doesn’t pick the googly from Rashid as he looks to reverse-sweep him down to fine leg.
It’s a bad read from the batsman as Pakistan now have half of their side dismissed.
The over ends with the Men in Green 126 for 5 as Iftikhar makes his way to the crease.
27 overs. Pakistan 122-4
Seems like luck is on his side at the moment as Salman once again top-edges when going for the big shot.
This time, it is well over long-off, and despite the two fielders converging on it from opposite ends, the ball reaches the rope.
26 overs. Pakistan 116-4
Salman slog-sweeps Rashid, intending to go over cow corner.
However, he doesn’t quite find his timing as the ball flies high over and bounces just before the boundary and away from any danger.
Seven useful runs come off the over.
25 overs. Pakistan 108-4
Salman knocks the ball over to mid-off and attempts a single off the third ball.
The non-striker calls off the run, forcing his partner to retreat from almost halfway down as the throw is fired in at his end.
Luckily for him, he made his ground before the stumps were dislodged.
Salman then looks to drive the fifth ball through long-off but ends up hitting his partner on the glove.
Shakeel asks for some medical attention as he looks to be in pain.
The magic spray is brought out, and it looks like he will be able to continue.
No love lost between these two at the moment.
24 overs. Pakistan 104-4
Rashid is toying with the new batter as the ball spins in one direction and then the other.
Salman tries to hedge his bets with a pull over mid-wicket, but ends up top-edging the chance, with the ball luckily landing in no-man’s land.
In the end, three runs off the over.
Pakistan 100-4. Rizwan out!
Rizwan comes down the track to Ali, but completely misses the ball as it spins away and clatters into his middle and leg stump.
He goes down with cramp as well as England secure another prized wicket as Pakistan’s chase looks more and more bleak.
The new batter is Salman with the required rate at 8.65 an over.
The over ends with Pakistan 101 for 4.
