‘We couldn’t break down the defending’
Brazil coach Pia Sundhage summed up her thoughts on the team’s performance: “First of all, we needed to create more chances and use the width better. We also have to put away the chances as well.
“They played well and they fought well. We couldn’t break down the defending,” she said.
“We do have high expectations. We started off the World Cup pretty well. We just have to face the result.”

Full-time
The referee blows the whistle as the Jamaican players rise to celebrate.
Brazil have crashed out of the 2023 World Cup.
The France-Panama match is still continuing as the scoreline has lessened to 5-3 in favour of the former, but there is still about 10 minutes to go in stoppage time.
Full-time: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Brazil win corner
The Selecao fans are up on their feet as their side earns a corner from the right side.
The delivery is sent in with the ball bobbling for a few seconds before Debinha gets on the ball.
She tries to fire a shot past Spencer, but the keeper has been magnificent throughout as she rushes over to catch the chance.
90+4 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Brazil win dangerous free kick
The opportunity is from about 20 metres out just right of centre.
Debinha is responsible for taking it, and fires in a shot at the near post.
Spencer is able to move well to her left to stop the incoming threat.
Meanwhile, we will have four additional minutes of stoppage time.
90+1 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Brazil face daunting prospect
As we near stoppage time, Brazilian fans look absolutely disconsolate at the notion they may be soon out of this World Cup.
Jamaica have been terrific in keeping their attacking threat to a minimum, but there is still time for a last-gasp winner.
89 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Jamaica make a change
It is the end of the night for Brown as Solai Washington rushes onto the field in her place.
86 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Geyse goes wide
Soon after the Shaw effort, Geyse is afforded a chance at the near post on the left side.
However, she blasts the shot well wide to cause any trouble to Spencer.
83 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Shaw fires over bar
This is without doubt their best opportunity so far.
Shaw storms in towards the box despite being harried by defenders.
She powers a shot at net, but the resulting effort ends up going skywards.
If it had gone in, it would have effectively ended Brazil’s World Cup hopes.
82 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Marta exits for possible final time
The sellout Melbourne crowd stands to their feet as Marta is brought off by Sundhage.
She is joined by Antonia and Luana.
The replacements are Andressa Alves, Duda Sampaio and Geyse.
81 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Spencer saves Jamaica
The ball is sent in from the left side by Brazil along the ground to try and find a willing receiver.
Swaby gets down to block the effort, but ends up spooning over a chance towards the far post.
Spencer is keenly aware, however, as she leaps to intercept the ball before it caused any further threat.
80 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Brazil desperate to break deadlock
Jamaica have reverted to their first-half strategy of sitting deep.
Brazil have so far failed to come up with any answers and will need to find a way in soon.
75 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Clock winding down on Brazil
Into the final 20 minutes now and they still can’t break this Jamaican spell.
We could very well be seeing the last match of Marta’s career on this grandest of stages.
71 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Brazil lacking in final third
They have been unable to make the telling pass to create any danger.
Raid after raid has been repelled by the Reggae Girlz in what is undoubtedly the biggest match in their history.
67 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Jamaica showing composure
They have been cool and collected in the face of relentless pressure from the Brazilians.
The Selecao now have less than 30 minutes to salvage their World Cup campaign.
63 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Shaw down again
Worrying signs for the Reggae Girlz as Shaw is once again lying on the pitch.
It looks like it’s her right hip, which is affected after battling Souza for the ball.
She heads to the touchline to receive some treatment as Jamaica temporarily soldier on with a woman down.
59 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Debinha almost gifted golden chance
Kerolin sends in a cross from outside the box on the right.
Spencer is alert to it, but fumbles the initial catch, with Debinha lurking close by.
The Jamaican keeper is able to quickly recover the ball however, averting any further danger.
France are now up 4-1, so it looks like they should be topping the group barring a Panamanian miracle.
55 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Jamaica playing with positive intent
It is clear that tactics have shifted somewhat from the first half.
They have looked more assertive on the ball, but continue to keep bodies behind as they know a draw is all they need to make it through to the next round.
52 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Pair of changes at the half
For Brazil, Borges is brought off in favour of Beatriz Zaneratto João.
As for Jamaica, Tiffany Cameron replaces Matthews, who had received a yellow.

Second half under way
The players are back from the interval, with Jamaica kicking things off this time.
Brazil are desperate to get on the board, so it will be interesting to see how coach Pia Sundhage approaches this second act.
46 mins: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
Half-time
Brazil have largely been in control, but have failed to make the crucial final pass to create any significant difficulty for the Jamaican keeper.
The Reggae Girlz have dug in defensively and seem to be content with a draw at the very minimum.
The Selecao will have another 45 minutes to try and break this game open if they are to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
Half-time: Jamaica 0-0 Brazil
