Heartbreak for Coventry City
Coventry City, winners of the FA Cup in 1987, came so close to making it to another FA Cup final today.
Mark Robins’s side fought back from three goals down to force the match into extra time, showcasing their grit and determination against 12-time winners United.
The Championship side were unlucky to miss two of their kicks in the penalty shootout, which eventually decided their fate.
FA Cup victory not enough for United, says Fernandes
Asked whether winning the FA Cup will make this a successful season for United, Fernandes said: “We’ll never be successful if we win [only] the FA Cup.
“The standard of this club is much higher than what we have been doing. We have to do better in the league, the League Cup and in Europe.”
United need to do better, says Fernandes
Speaking to ITV Sport, United’s captain Fernandes said there is room for improvement for the Reds.
“We put ourselves in a difficult position because we had the game controlled and could have killed it, but we didn’t,” he said.
“Credit to Coventry for what they have done but we need to do better.”
FA Cup final: Manchester City vs Manchester United
It’ll be a Manchester derby in the FA Cup final on May 25.
The two teams will play in the final for a second successive season after United recorded an exciting penalty shootout win over Coventry, while City booked their ticket to the title clash by beating Chelsea 1-0 on Saturday.

Manchester United have reached the FA Cup final with a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Coventry City after the game ended 3-3 in extra time.
Casemiro started the shootout with a miss but Dalot, Eriksen, and Fernandes all scored before Hojlund sealed it with another strike.
For Coventry, Wright and Torp scored, but Onana saved O’Hare’s shot and Sheaf missed.
