Amra Sabic-El-Rayess

Sabic-El-Rayess is the author of the award winning memoir "The Cat I Never Named: A True Story of Love, War, and Survival" (Bloomsbury, 2020), about h... er experiences during the Bosnian war. Her upcoming children's memoir, "Three Summers", will be published in 2023 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux Books for Young Readers. She emigrated to the United States in 1996, earning a BA in economics from Brown University as well as two master’s degrees and a doctorate from Columbia University. She is an international expert on education, radicalisation and social transformations and a professor at Columbia University’s Teachers College who recently won a $750,000 Innovation Grant from the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention Grant Program to launch a professional training program for educators to help prevent radicalisation in US schools. She has worked as the expert on behalf of the US State Department, foreign governments, and other global organisations.
