Italy: Giuseppe Conte sworn in as new prime minister

Giuseppe Conte, the prime minister for the government of the Five Star Movement-League coalition, has taken his oath of office, but it will be a challenge to hold the unusual alliance together.

The prime minister of Italy‘s populist government has been sworn in.

Little-known law professor, Giuseppe Conte will lead a coalition of the anti-establishment Five Star Movement and the far-right League party to bring an end to three months of political deadlock.
