Libya: Ceasefire in force after days of fighting in Tripoli

But agreement is in doubt because government is not thought to be strong enough to reign in the armed groups ‘terrorising civilians’ in the southern suburbs of the capital.

Leaders of the internationally recognised government in Libya are appealing for calm, following three days of fighting between rival armed groups in the capital.

A ceasefire is in force after the killing of at least 26 people, including 15 civilians, and artillery shell fire destroyed homes, markets and mosques.
