Inside Story

What’s the Israeli prime minister’s vision for Middle East peace?

Naftali Bennett met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Sharm El Sheikh.

It is the first official visit by an Israeli prime minister to Egypt in more than a decade.

Naftali Bennett’s trip to the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh signals a warming in relations between the two countries.

They signed a peace treaty in 1979, but the relationship cooled over the years.

Bennett said his meeting with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has created a foundation for deep ties in the future.

The two also discussed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Egypt said ways to revive the peace process in the Middle East were high on the agenda.

But beyond their countries’ ties, what can el-Sisi offer on regional issues?
