Afghan cinema became a dangerous affair as conflict escalated between the communist regime and the American-backed Mujahideen.

For the communists, Afghan cinema served as a propaganda tool.

For some members of the Mujahideen, cinema was seen as a necessary tool of documentation to transmit knowledge on the battlefields and to the next generation.

But as the Mujahideen took over Kabul in 1992, Afghan film faced an uncertain future.
