Ulaanbaatar, the capital city of Mongolia, battles with some of the worst air quality in the world – millions of citizens rely upon burning raw coal to endure some of the harshest winters on earth.

For Enkhbaatar, mining for coal means business.

Each day, he and his team of miners brave treacherous conditions in the coal mines of Nalaikh, a sparse post-Soviet town on the edges of the capital city.

But as Ulaanbaatar’s skies grow ever more polluted, a looming ban on raw coal threatens an entire industry, and forces Enkhbaatar and his team to rethink their future.
