More than 850 people were killed as the Basque separatist group ETA fought for an independent state in southwestern France and northern Spain. But now ETA has disarmed after fighting a bloody campaign for independence for more than half a century.

But now ETA has disarmed after fighting a bloody campaign for independence for more than half a century.

The group says it’s handed over all weapons and explosives, and will continue to operate as a disarmed group.
