Argentina corruption: seizing assets difficult even under Macri

Under Argentina’s former President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, accusations of corruption were rife.

In 2015, when Mauricio Macri came to power he promised to fight graft, but he himself came under investigation when his name came up in a Panama Papers probe.

Since then, judicial authorities have launched a campaign to detain and seize the assets of those involved in corruption scandals.

But it’s proving to be more difficult to implement than initially thought.
