Bukom: Ghana’s hub for boxing champions

Tough Accra neighbourhood where opportunities are limited is producing some of Africa’s finest boxers.

The densely populated community of Bukom in Ghana‘s capital is inhabited by fishermen. But fishing is not Bukom’s only export. The local gym is also cultivating some of Africa’s finest boxing talent – including Azumah Nelson, widely considered the best fighter the continent has produced.
