The Darien Gap on the Panama-Colombia border has been used by thousands of migrants to reach the United States.

It is a dense jungle filled with mountains, cliffs, rivers and wild animals. It is also a haven for criminal organisations that abuse many of those trying to go north, escaping the financial crisis in South America that has been made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic.
